Here's a great place for a visit, a museum about the Grand Army of the Republic:
Nebraska City Civil War Veterans Museum
The Grand Army of the Republic was reserved for Civil War veterans. Table Rock's post disbanded in 1933, with only five members left alive. The last, John Lehman, died in 1941.  

There are organizations of descendants of Civil War veterans that are alive and well:
