The photographs below are from the John Savage Collection of the Omaha World Herald land shared courtesy of the Durham Museum. These show Joe Howard McNeely returning home at the end of World War II to be with is parents, Joe Hiram & Minnie McNeeely.

Originally, we found the initial picture on the web, with no names or identifying information. We tracked them down to the John Savage collection, but still there were no names. Then Diane Gidley Anderson, a niece of Joe and Minnie, found the article that the pictures accompanied in an old family scrapbook. We had been unable to find the story in the World Herald but armed with this article it was finally located
