March 30, 1909 - The Havel family is forcibly evicted by county sheriff Cloud Fuller along with help including Frank Kovanda, Jr., and Charlie McCourtney. Upon seeing the sheriff, Havel ran for the house 5to get his gun and when stopped called for his son to get it. The son ran and got the gun while the officers bound Havel with rope and then, for good measure, chains. Then Havel's maddened wife came out with an 'ugly" knife and in the struggle to subdue her she bit "quite a bit of flesh" from Charlie McCourtney's hand. At last they were loaded in a heavy wagon all securely chained together.
The two adults were headed for proceedings to determine whether they were same enough to stand trial. Nothing was said of the fate of the 15-year-old son.
