George's obituary from the Pawnee paper is included in a FindaGrave.com memorial. Apparently George and his wife took a trip from Table Rock to Las Vegas, Nevada to see their daughter and he took ill there. He was taken to Los Angeles for surgery but did not survive. He was 69.
OBITUARY-THE PAWNEE CHIEF
DECEMBER 10, 1915
Mr. George F. Cotton of this place, died at a hospital in Los Angeles, Calif., at 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning, aged 68 years. Mr. Cotton with his wife left here some three weeks ago for Las Vegas, Nev., to visit his daughter, Mrs. Dr. Roy Martin, who is superintendent of a hospital in that city. On his arrival a consultation was held and he was taken to Los Angeles to be operated on for gall stones.
Mr. Cotton had resided in this place for the past 22 years, coming from Superior, Neb. In both places he has been identified with the brick business. He is survived by a wife, two sons, George A. and Ralph C. of Table Rock, and Mrs. Nellie Martin of Las Vegas.
Funeral arrangements are as yet unannounced.

Photo 177: The Table Rock Band circa 1915. This was a town band; the high school band was not established until 1929. Ralph Cotton is unidentified as one of the members.
George and Mary Cotton are buried at the Table Rock Cemetery. Their children Ralph, George, and Nellie (Mrs. Roy Martin) are not. The whereabouts of their graves are unknown.
A social article from May 24, 1900 shows that Colonel George Cotton was baggage master at the depot. The senior Cotton being the brickmaster at the brick factory east of town, this is perhaps a reference to the younger Cotton:
