It was 1896. Nicholas A. Cage was just a man with a wife. He had tried to make a little money here and there, buying some cottages in Lower Town and renting them out, odd things here and there. He took on the marshal job. One day, just trying to do his job, he was murdered. It is quite a story. I wrote about it in the Historical Society's quarterly newsletter.
