Oh, the hats they wore!
Historical Society member Luella Hinrichsen ran across a comment in the Table Rock Argus of May 19, 1904, by editor Frank Taylor. He defended the large hats worn by women, saying:
They always prove a blessing, for many is the time we have sat behind them in church and slept undisturbed throughout a whole sermon." |
Picture of an unidentified couple, by Archer King. Do you suppose he is delighted with her hat? He looks to be delighted with absolutely everything about her. And she looks to have a treasure. This picture is way before World War 1, so they are both long gone now. I hope that they had a happy life together. And that she continued to wear adorable hats like this one. Photo 1700.
