the home town paper
The hometown weekly paper is a treasure of small town cultural that has mostly passed into history. In Pawnee County, we still have the Pawnee Republican. However, there once were weekly papers in at least Table Rock and Elk Creek at one time or another.
The value of the home town weekly was extolled in a wonderful essay that was published in the Argus on April 13, 1913. It appears to have been a reprint rather than an original editorial, but the sentiment is there.
This article is difficult to read. The edition of the paper that was microfilmed was not in good condition. Here is a transcription.

1915 - looking homeward
While not about the newspaper business, this poem expresses the sentiment that leads the farflung former residents of Table Rock to look back with nostalgia.
