district 38 - the burgert school
This history of the Burgert school, which was west of Table Rock, is PACKED with stories! Robert & Richard Freeman rode a black shetland pony to school, one guy always referred to it as Seabiscuit. Bernice Herrick took over as teacher when her predecessor could not handle the discipline problems; guess Bernice could, as she stayed several years. This talks about who lived where and things that happened to them, it's not just about school. It closed in 1951. The history is written by Mildred Brown, daughter of Cora Kent.
