the class of 1904
this photo is a mystery!
Members of the Class of 1904 were young people born around 1885.
The Table Rock-Steinauer Alumni Association lists eight girls and three boys as the members of the Class of 1904 in alphabetical order, as follows:
The girls: Madie Buckles Fisher; Mable Edwards Clift; Nelle Fellers Horton; Mabel Goodale Barnard; Nelle Irwin Duncan; Mary Kovanda Petrasek; Cleo Layman Porak; and Blanche Mort Hayek
The boys: Claude Conant; Louis Kay Dow; and Charles Martin.
In the Historical Society's collection of class pictures, the Class of 1904 has 11 members. A tag is affixed that lists the members of the class. It's the same list as above. It seems to simply be in alphabetical, not in the order that the students appear in the picture.
THERE IS A PROBLEM!
The photograph shows SIX girls (not 8) and there are FIVE boys (not 3)! (And a male teacher, middle, front row.)
Is this really a picture of the Class of 1904?
Or is this really an accurate list of the members of it?
Which is right, the picture or the list? And if this is not the Class of 1904, which class is it? No other class from that time period had 11 students!
We have pictures of a couple of the students at different times in life. Can you recognize them in the school photo? Take a look below.
