the bebensee family
A FEW FACTS
Kim Vrtiska recalls that the third bridge past Steve Schaardt was once known as the Bebensee. That was because Bebensee's lived next to it, Alice and Lorain. They lived in the house Steve lives in now.
Lorain Bebensee and Alice Kalina Bebensee were both born in 1918, Alice near either Elk Creek or Dubois and Lorain near Elk Creek. She died in 1997, he died in 2002.

they are remembered
In March 5, 2017, Terri Kallio posted on the Historical Society's Facebook page, which spurred an exchange with Kim Vrtiska. Terri posted that she had roots in Table Rock and Elk Creek, with the Bebensee, Kuhl, Baucke, and Haack families.
Kim: Were you related to Lorain and Alice? Terri: Yes! - Lorain's father Hans Bebensee was my great Uncle Kim: Alice was a cousin of mine and they lived next door to us until their passing. Terri: I was in Table Rock last fall and my cousin showed me where everyone had lived. So I got to see their home. I just loved Alice - she was pure joy to be around. They came to Colorado occasionally to visit and we always had a great time with her. It was a big deal for the Bebensee's to get together to pheasant hunt every year back in the 40's, 50's and later. They Bebensee's from Hildreth would go Elk Creek to hunt and the Elk Creek Bebensee's would come to Hildreth to hunt. I've heard many funny stories about those times. Kim: If you join the Foale Family page you will find a number of pictures of Alice and Lorain Terri, after checking out the Foale Family page: Oh goodness - spotted Alice right away Kim: You'll find a number of pics scattered throughout reunion pics and younger pics in the random album. She was originally Alyce Kalina. She changed the spelling on her first name as some time. |
