the 25th bicycle corps
comes through table rock
Table Rock has seen a few cross-country passers-through. This event in 1897 must have been really interesting, A troop of soldiers on those relatively new-fangled bicycles, testing the bicycle as a possible mode of transport. (Despite the success of the soldiers in completing the journey in good time, the experiment was considered by the military to be unsuccessful.) They had begun in Wyoming. They came to Table Rock on their 31st day, overnighted, then continued on to Rulo to cross the Missouri River and continue into Missouri for their next overnight. That they were a "colored" troop seems to have made no difference, in Table Rock, at least, for people gathered to "salute" them with "loud and lusty" cheers.
