POLKA!
The eastern part of Pawnee County -- basically the Nemaha River Valley -- was crammed with settlers who came from the old Kingdom of Bohemia. Most were here by the 1890s. They brought their love of music with them, first forming bands consisting entirely of brass instruments. The accordion became popular and the instrumentation and repertoire expanded.
There have been many bands, from one known simply as the Sheridan band in the 1870s and the well-organized Bunker Hill Bohemian Band formed by Albert Wopata in the 1880s, to the most recent, the Trey Blecha Band. Almost all have played in Table Rock or at the DuBois ZCBJ Hall.
